Do I Need A Pool Guy?

Honestly, even if you are in less than average physical health... The answer is No. If you can carry a bag of salt from your car to your pool, then you probably don't need a Pool Guy.

There are a lot of things you can do to minimize the time spent taking care of your pool. There is also equipment available that significantly reduces your maintenance requirements. When properly configured caring for your pool could take less than an hour each month. But... be careful because there are also a lot of useless products that simply don't contribute to the management of your pool.

To keep your pool maintenance to a minimum, you have to understand three aspects of pool care that directly affect its operation and cleanliness.

Filtration, Flow and Chemistry...

While each one is important, all three work in unison to keep your pool clear and trouble free. Simple things like the direction of your return jets can affect one or all of those attributes, but the heart of your system is the Pool Filter. When neglected it can affect Filtration obviously, but it can also slow down your pool's Flow and even raise the PH effecting the Chemistry.

Here is our top-down recommendation to keep your pool running its best with the least amount of effort...

  1. Jets - The return eyeballs on your pool should be oriented in a fashion that creates flow on the top of the water directing debris into your skimmer. (Spas - Pools with spas need to have enough spill overflow from the spa to move debris out of the spa and into the pool)
  2. Filtration - Once you have a steady stream of debris making its way from the pool to the pump, you need to make sure its being collected by your filter without harming the flow of the pool. (Your skimmer and pool pump will collect the large items. We recommend the cyclonic prefilter to remove sediment that got past the pool pump before it has a chance to build up there. This can reduce your weekly filter cleanings to only needing to be done monthly if configured correctly)
  3. Chemistry - The easiest way to treat your pools chemistry is by far the salt chlorine generator. Once proper salt levels are achieved, they do all the heavy lifting and even clean themselves when they are given the required chemistry balance. (When using our recommended salt system you can even get updates on your phone with accurate real time measurements)
  4. Vacuuming - Not all the debris that gets in the pool will be collected on the surface. There will be debris that sinks to the bottom of the pool. This is where a vacuum will come in and save the day. An automatic vacuum will collect the debris by moving around the entire surface of the pool and moving the debris to the filter via suction. (We recommend a suction cleaner found in our equipment list. Electric standalone options work as well, but they will require cleaning of their own filters)
  5. Flow - Now the Filter is truly the heart of your pools system, however the Pump/Motor are what keeps the entire system moving. When possible, we recommend oversizing to ensure your pump is not struggling to move enough water. (We also recommend the new inverter motor pumps because they can adjust their output from 1% to 120% automatically when monitoring your pools flow rate)

By setting your pool up correctly, it will save you headaches and reduce your overall maintenance times to miniscule proportions.
